Your child is already using AI for homework - here's what you need to know
Most children will meet AI before adults have finished deciding how they feel about it. The useful question is not whether they will use it, but how we help them use it honestly and thoughtfully.
Start with the conversation
Ask your child what they have tried, what helped, and what felt confusing. This opens up more than a blanket ban, and it gives you a chance to spot risky habits early.
A simple home rule is: AI can help explain, quiz, plan or improve, but it should not secretly replace the child thinking through the task.
Useful prompts for home
Good uses include asking for a topic explanation at the right age level, generating practice questions, turning notes into a quiz, or checking whether an answer is clear.
Less helpful uses include pasting in the whole assignment and submitting the answer untouched. That removes the learning, and teachers can usually feel when the voice is not the pupil’s.
